Markt Ippesheim the largest wine growing community in Central
Franconia (Northern Bavaria) is situated on the southern border of the
Steigerwald region 40 km South of of Würzburg. It is a typical franconian
community with about 1.200 inhabitants. It consists of three villages: Bullenheim, Herrnberchtheim
and Ippesheim. In addition to the traditionally renowned vineyards it also
hosts a new industrial area on the Gollhofen turnoff of the A7 motorway.
In Ippesheim church and castle Lichtenstein are looking down from
the hill on typical Franconian houses inviting the visitor to stay.
Signposted hiking tours will lead the traveller through the valley of the
Iff with its old watermills up through the vineyards to the adjacent
Steigerwald forrest. Bullenheim presents itself with its old
franconian style town hall and the old church in
Franconian splendor. Hiking paths lead you up the
Bullenheim hill (the so called Paradise) through
vineyards with a number of small stands where the art of
vine making is explained to visitors. For those
interested in archaeology, there is an excavations site
from the ancient (Celtic) times.
Old Epitaphien are on the old cemetery walls surrounding the church in
Herrnberchtheim.
Our own wines can be tested
in many inns and our special
farmerinns (so called Heckenwirtschaft). This small taverns on the farmstead
of the vintagers offer a special atmosphere. Visitors of Ippesheim can stay
here and enjoy our great wines and try also our many hiking ways. It is also
possible to start nice sightseeing tours in many interesting places like
Ansbach, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg on river Tauber and Würzburg also
one day trips to Munich and the castle Neuschwanstein.
